Hi everyone,
Several members of staff have approached me about starting up Breathing Space again. I'll send out an all-staff email in the next few days, but here's a quick message for those of you who are connected to the blog.
I'm proposing starting up on Thursday lunchtimes again, but am open to other days if this doesn't suit the majority. If you're wanting to start getting some practice on your own at home, or want to do some light reading, check out the 'Links' and 'Mindfulness of Breathing' tabs above, or:
Guided Breathing: Wildmind
The links to the 4 stages are on the left. Click on them, and you'll get a brief description and an audio link at the bottom to guide you through. This is a Buddhist site--of course meditation/mindfulness is central to Buddhism!
We have been so far doing this 4 step method in our mindfulness sessions.
Headspace is a site linked to Andy Puddicombe's book of the same name, in which he advocates 'Take Ten', that is, ten minutes of meditation every day. If you explore the site, you'll see a couple of tasters, and you can do a free trial, after which it's a paid service. There are apps for your phone as well. The focus is secular.
Psychology Today has a good article: '5 Meditation Tips for Beginners' which might be of interest to you.
Apps:
There are several apps available through Google Play:
There is a series from the Meditation Society of Australia which offers 15 lessons with text and audio. It comes in three parts. FREE
There are a number of timers available, too. Most are free, and can be adapted to any timings/sounds you like. Some even keep track of how long and when you have meditated, which can be an excellent motivational tool. Try searching for 'meditation timer'.
Hope this helps, and looking forward to seeing everyone after the break!
